Born in Kentucky, son of Jonathan Ricks and Temperance Edwards. Conversion to Mormonism, 1841; removal to Nauvoo, Illinois, 1845; labor in the construction of the Nauvoo Temple; exodus west, 1845; arrival in the Salt Lake Valley, 1848; move to Cache Valley, Utah, 1859.
